Wasteland of the Future

In an era of explosive informational technology, over 40-million-ton electronic waste has been produced every year. And under the surface of such massive E-waste production, informational waste and anxiety are constantly generated via social networking and consumerist machine.

The project targets the relationship between the electronic medium and people’s urban existence, strengthening transmissive interconnections and among technology, human perception and sustainability. Through interactive exhibiting methods, WLF raises discussions on waste, human community, and global justice.

The exhibition showcased in Navy Yard, New York, Shanghai Himalayas Museum and School of Philosophy, Fudan University. The section in Fudan University primarily concentrates on demonstrating exhibition’s academic structures, while the section in Shanghai Himalayas Museum public space mainly focuses on interactions with the public. The installation piece “Disassembly Line” prompts thoughtful reflection on human production and consumption. Audience not only witnesses the behind the electronic recycling, but more importantly, directly participating in hands on de-constructing and transforming of the collected waste.
